Submission Terms

Eligibility

The Contributor must satisfy the submission eligibility criteria stated on Qawwam’s current “Submit to Qawwam” page at the time of submission.

Qawwam may reject a submission that does not satisfy those criteria.

Copyright Ownership

The Contributor retains copyright in the Contributor’s Work.

Except for the licenses expressly granted in these Submission Terms, no copyright ownership is transferred to Qawwam.

Qawwam retains its own rights in Qawwam-created editing, design, layout, branding, compilation, and other original Qawwam material.

Originality and Authority

The Contributor represents and warrants that:

• the Contributor owns the Work or has sufficient authority to submit and license it;
• the Work is original to the Contributor except for material properly quoted, credited, licensed, or otherwise lawfully used;
• the Work does not knowingly infringe another person’s copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other rights;
• the Contributor has obtained permissions reasonably necessary for included third-party images, artwork, substantial quotations, translations, or other protected material;
• information supplied concerning authorship and attribution is materially accurate.

Prior Publication

The Contributor must disclose material prior publication or substantial prior public availability of the Work when submitting it.

Qawwam may decide whether prior publication is compatible with publication in Qawwam.

Review and Editing

Submission does not guarantee acceptance or publication.

Qawwam may:

• reject a submission for any lawful editorial reason;
• request revisions;
• copyedit accepted work for grammar, style, clarity, consistency, formatting, and reasonable length;
• format accepted work for print, web, PDF, email, archive, and successor technical formats.

Material substantive changes may be sent back to the Contributor for revision or approval rather than being silently attributed to the Contributor.

Qawwam may correct obvious errors after publication.

Compensation

Submissions are unpaid unless Qawwam Magazine LLC and the Contributor expressly agree otherwise in writing before publication.

Submission, acceptance, or publication does not by itself create an obligation to pay a fee, royalty, revenue share, or other compensation.

Exclusive First-Publication Right

Submitting a Work does not by itself prevent the Contributor from publishing it elsewhere.

If Qawwam accepts the Work for publication in writing, the Contributor grants Qawwam the exclusive right of first publication of that accepted Work.

From written acceptance until Qawwam’s first publication of the Work, the Contributor agrees not to publish or authorize publication of the same Work elsewhere unless Qawwam releases the Contributor from that first-publication commitment in writing.

Qawwam may release the Contributor from that commitment in writing at any time.

Upon Qawwam’s first publication, this first-publication exclusivity ends.

Perpetual Non-Exclusive License After Publication

Upon Qawwam’s first publication of an accepted Work, the Contributor grants Qawwam Magazine LLC a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to:

• reproduce the published Work;
• distribute it;
• publicly display or communicate it;
• retain it in Qawwam’s permanent print and digital archives;
• include it in the Issue in which it was published and later reproductions or archives of that Issue;
• publish and maintain it on qawwam.online;
• format or technically adapt it as reasonably necessary for print, web, PDF, email, archival, accessibility, and successor formats;
• use reasonable excerpts, thumbnails, images, titles, and the Contributor’s approved name or pseudonym to promote the Work, the Issue, or Qawwam Magazine;
• allow printers, hosting providers, distributors, email providers, social platforms, archival vendors, and other service providers to perform the acts reasonably necessary for Qawwam to exercise this license.

This license is non-exclusive after first publication, so the Contributor may republish or license the Work elsewhere.

Qawwam does not receive the right to sell or license the Contributor’s underlying Work for unrelated third-party commercial exploitation as a standalone property unless the Contributor separately agrees in writing.

Attribution

Qawwam will ordinarily publish accepted work under the Contributor’s approved name, pen name, or attribution.

The Contributor is responsible for providing the intended attribution before publication.

Qawwam may make reasonable formatting changes to attribution and may correct obvious errors.

Withdrawal

Before written acceptance, the Contributor may withdraw a submission by contacting Qawwam.

After written acceptance but before publication, the Contributor may request withdrawal, but the first-publication commitment remains in effect unless Qawwam confirms release in writing.

After publication, withdrawal does not terminate Qawwam’s perpetual non-exclusive archival/publication license.

Qawwam may nevertheless remove or correct material when it determines that legal, safety, rights, correction, or editorial circumstances warrant doing so.

Third-Party Material and Permissions

The Contributor must identify and provide requested information about third-party material included in a Work, including:

• photographs;
• artwork;
• screenshots;
• translations;
• excerpts;
• quotations;
• documents;
• other copyrighted or personality-rights material.

Qawwam may require proof of permission before publication.
